How to pray over your Marriage

Here is the thing, no matter where you go to or what circle you are in as a believer you are always told to pray over your marriage. But what does that actually mean?

How do you pray for your marriage?

Firstly the reason you pray over your marriage is to invite God into your relationship and asking for his guidance in it, it also comes with the blessings that only He can bring into your marriage.

Stepping into daily or even weekly prayer in your marriage gives you the chance to walk in love, be slow to anger and come from wanting to grow your marriage to the best it can be.

“Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.” – 1 Corinthians 13:4-7

If you have never prayed over your marriage or just want a bit of a framework try this

  1. Start by giving thanks to God for your spouse and your marriage. Give thanks for the love and all the blessings currently and to come in your life.
  2. Ask for any things not of God to be weeded out, so that could be anger, fear, doubt.
  3. Pray for your spouse, for their needs, well being, abundance, pray blessings and go to war for them in the spirit so that no harm will come to them.
  4. Pray for yourself as well and how you would like to show up in your marriage
  5. Pray for your marriage as a whole.
  6. Close your pray in affirmation, from a place of it is already done. You can even close in scripture.

By no means is this the only way to pray over your marriage, use this as a guide and adapt it as you settle into a prayer life that works for you and where you are at in your marriage.

At the end of the day praying is all about getting into communication with God, it is about an open dialogue, coming to Him with praise, with whatever is bothering us and also knowing that if He is for us, who can be against us.
